Bible Story Craft for Daniel’s Friends in The Fiery Furnace
1. For the fiery furnace; cardboard or heavy construction paper, scissors to cut out part of the furnace above the flames and about 1/2 inch in from sides and top of furnace; red, yellow and orange felt pens, crayons or felts for the flames, grey for the furnace.
2. For Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and the angel of the Lord, cardboard or construction paper, colors you like for all except the angel, pale yellow for him.
1. Cut out the furnace, paste it on cardboard or heavy construction paper, cut out 1/2 inch from sides and top and above the flames. Color the furnace grey.
2. Cut out the first drawing, trace it three times on cardboard or construction paper, one each for Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Color their clothing as you like, let the children draw in the faces.
Explain to the children how king Nebuchadnezzar built a stature of gold, and that when everyone heard music, they were to fall down and worship the golden statue. Tell them that Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refused to bow down and were brought before the king who told them that if they did not worship the statue, they would be burned in the furnace. Tell them that the three said “If it be so, our God who we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us…but if not, we will not serve your gods or worship the image.”
Then color the flames of the furnace bright red, orange and yellow and put in the drawings of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego behind the flames in the furnace, so you can see the flames in front of them. Then cut out the drawing of the angel of the Lord, color him pale yellow and put him in with the three also. Explain how when the king looked into the furnace, he saw four men walking around in the fire, and one “is like the Son of God.” (Daniel 3:25) Tell them how Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were brought out unharmed, and their clothing was perfect too.
Tell them that God protected them in the furnace.
