Explain to the children that in those days the word of God was very precious, because there were no more dreams and visions. Tell them how the lamp in the temple went out when Samuel was sleeping, and he heard a voice call “Samuel, Samuel”. Tell them how he went to Eli because he thought it was him, but Eli sent him back to bed. Explain the third time Samuel came to Eli, Eli knew it was the voice of the Lord and so he told Samuel that the next time he heard the voice he was to say “Speak Lord, for your servant hears” Tell them how the Lord again called Samuel and told him everything that was going to happen to Eli and his sons.
