Jesus Teaches More About Prayer
In another story called “Jesus Teaches Prayer” we learned about the prayer that Jesus taught his disciples to pray. Some of the words in that prayer are “Give us day by day our daily bread.”
And to show them an example of this, Jesus told them this story:
“Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go to him in the middle of the night and say to him “friend, lend me three loaves of bread, because a friend of mine who is traveling has come to me, and I have nothing to put before him.” And the friend from within his house shall answer and say “do not trouble me, the door is now shut, my children are in bed, I cannot get up and give this to you”
I say to you, even though this man does not want to get up and give the three loaves of bread to you, his friend, because you keep knocking on his door, he will rise and give you as many as you need.
And I say to you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you! For everyone that asks receives, and he that seeks finds, and to him that knocks it shall be opened.
How much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him.
Memory Verse: Luke 11:9 “And I say to you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you…..”
1 What are the words from the prayer that Jesus was teaching about?
2 Why did the man go to the house of his friend in the middle of the night?
3 Why didn’t the friend want to give the bread?
4 What did the man keep doing?
5 Who is ready and willing to provide us the things we need?
1 Give us day by day our daily bread (Luke 11:3)(Give us this day our daily bread (KJV) )
2 Because someone had come to his house and he had nothing to give him.
3 Because the door was shut and his children were in bed
4 He kept knocking on the door until his friend gave him what he needed.
5 Our heavenly Father who is God.
